India’s Major Airports End Ties with Celebi Aviation Over Security Issues

by Thepostxo May 22, 2025 0 Comment

In a big move that has caught attention in the aviation world, India’s major airports — including Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad — have ended their contracts with Celebi Aviation, a Turkish ground handling company. This decision came soon after the Indian government revoked Çelebi Aviation’s security clearance, citing national security concerns.

The company was responsible for handling important airport services like baggage, cargo, and more. But now, due to rising geopolitical tensions, especially Turkey’s support for Pakistan in recent incidents, India has decided to step back from its partnership with the firm.

What Led to This Decision?

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) issued a directive to immediately stop Celebi Aviation’s operations in these airports. As a result, airport operators had no choice but to terminate their agreements with the company.

For example:

  • Adani Airport Holdings, which operates Mumbai and Ahmedabad airports, confirmed that they’ve cut ties with Çelebi Aviation.
  • Delhi International Airport (DIAL) also ended its contracts with Celebi Aviation and its cargo handling branch.

But don’t worry — all these airports have made sure that operations won’t be affected. The employees who worked for Çelebi are being taken in by new ground handling agencies, so passengers won’t face any issues.
Who’s Taking Over the Work?

In Mumbai, a local Indian firm called Indothai is now handling what Celebi Aviation used to do. Similarly, in Delhi, other service providers like AISATS and Bird Group are stepping in to make sure things run smoothly.
Çelebi Aviation Fights Back

Not happy with the sudden decision, Celebi Aviation has taken legal action. The company has filed a petition in a Delhi court, saying the government didn’t give a clear reason for cancelling their clearance. They claim the explanation was vague and unfair.

What Does This Mean for the Future?

This incident shows how national security concerns can impact international businesses. The Indian government has made it clear that any risks, even from foreign partners, will not be taken lightly.

Even though Celebi Aviation had been operating in India for many years, this move highlights how politics and global relations can quickly change business partnerships.

Final Thoughts

In summary, Celebi Aviation has lost its ground in India — literally. With major airports moving on to new partners and a legal battle on the way, it’s clear that airport operations are entering a new phase in India. Whether Çelebi Aviation makes a comeback or not, passenger services are expected to continue without disruption.
